Over the years my wife has made a practice out of going through my side of the hall closet in our house to thin out the ever-growing herd of branded ball caps crammed in there. On my desk, I have an ample supply of pens provided by the various equipment brands from those product launches and other events I have to attend on a regular basis.
Although I suspect I end up with more of that stuff than the average farmer, stroll into the local Tim Hortons and it’s clear most of the people around here have their fair share of machinery swag, too. Nearly everyone has a branded ball cap and more than a few have crested pullovers or jackets as well. In fact, there’s so much of that stuff around I think brand ball caps and jackets have become the unofficial uniform of rural Saskatchewan.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
But for those who like to wear their favourite brand on their sleeves—or on their caps—there’s a new opportunity to express loyalty to their machinery of choice, if your favourite brand happens to be New Holland or Case IH.
Ram Trucks (or Dodge Trucks as many of us still call them, even though their official name has changed) will launch their 2018 Harvest Edition models this fall. And buyers can get one painted in official New Holland blue or Case IH red.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), which builds Rams, is part of the same global company both those two machinery brands belong to. So it’s no surprise there is some level of joint marketing going on.
“The Ram Harvest Edition marks the first time that Ram dealers will be able to stock trucks that exactly match the colors of two of the most popular lines of farm equipment in the nation,” said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep & Ram Brands, FCA Global in a press release. “Farmers have been asking for these colors, and Ram is proud to be the first in the industry to be able to offer them. The Ram Harvest Edition truck will allow farm families to get their work done while proudly showing their agricultural brand loyalty.”
The Harvest Edition models will be available in in the 1500, 2500 and 3500 Series trucks. And they will include an options package that goes beyond just the paint color.
Harvest Edition models get an extra inch of ride height and aggressive off-road tires, to help them navigate “rough farm roads”, according to the corporate announcement. That reference to rough roads makes me wonder if the guy who wrote that statement lives in rural Saskatchewan.
And there’s much more on the features list, including black tubular side steps, a spray-in bed liner, fold-out bumper step, mud flaps, rubber floor mats, skid plates, tow hooks, heated seats and a cargo-view camera among other things.
To help farmers connect to the web, the trucks also get built-in 4G Wi-Fi, (assuming they’re in a spot where you can actually get cellular service, which isn’t exactly a sure thing in all rural areas).
If having all those options sounds like something you need in a pickup but you’re not an NH or Case IH guy, don’t despair. Ram will build you one in Bright White or Brilliant Black. In those cases, you’ll have to drop into your local dealer and buy some decals to stick on the side to show your unique brand loyalty.
